FWC requests public comment about peregrine falcon

June 27, 2008
Contact: Beth Scott, 850-251-3970

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is asking for comments and information from the public about the conservation needs of the peregrine falcon and any economic and social factors that should be considered in managing the species in Florida.

The FWC is developing a management plan for the peregrine falcon after commissioners determined the bird warranted removal from the state’s imperiled species list. Staff recommended removing the falcon from the list after considering the results of a biological status report, independent scientific reviews and public comments about the biological status of the bird.

The falcon will be delisted upon completion and approval of a species-specific management plan to guide conservation and management of peregrine falcons in Florida.

Comments should be sent to:

Ocala, FL 34471-0323

or e-mailed to peregrine@MyFWC.com by 5 p.m., Aug. 12.
